Course objective

This program trains engineers specializing in high-tech materials and equipment for hospitals, care facilities and healthcare professionals.

For purely technical training, the emphasis is on instrumentation (physics, electronics, IT, signal processing), supplemented by courses in chemistry, biology, physiology, biomechanics, etc., essential for understanding the vast field of biomedical engineering ("from scanner to scalpel").

The curriculum is also designed to provide a sound understanding of the healthcare sector, its players (equipment suppliers and users) and its stringent regulatory and quality constraints, in a highly internationalized context.

Teaching environment

The teaching team is made up of teacher-researchers from research laboratories and training establishments in the Marseille area, working in a wide variety of fields: physics, life sciences, electronics, mechanics, medicine and pharmacy.

It is complemented by professionals working in hospitals (biomedical engineers from Assistance Publique des Hôpitaux de Marseille, medical physicists) and biomedical companies.

Example of teaching equipment

e-Health Platform

Technological equipment for the hospital sector is becoming increasingly miniaturized and increasingly communicative. These connected objects are becoming accessible to the general public, making it easy to measure health parameters such as heart rate, blood pressure, brain signals, etc.

  • Project-based teaching

    Les rencontres du biomédical

Les Rencontres du Biomédical, an event organized by 2nd-year engineering students in Polytech Marseille's Biomedical Engineering program, is held in collaboration with the Proving Forum association. This recruitment forum takes place on the Luminy campus. The day is an opportunity for engineering students to exchange ideas with professionals in the biomedical field, and to discover innovations and careers in the biomedical sector.

  • Courses

Students in our program take part in three compulsory internships, which are evaluated by the internship supervisor and the school's teaching staff.

    • 3rd year: company discovery internship, 4 to 6 weeks, starting in early June
    • 4th year: internship in a company or laboratory, minimum 8 weeks, starting in early June
    • 5th year: industrial internship, 5 months minimum, starting mid-February

The majority of our students carry out their internships in SMEs, VSEs and start-ups, and the remainder in large companies, research laboratories and local authorities.

  • Professionalization contract

Our engineering students have the opportunity to complete their final year of the engineering cycle under a work-study contract with the following work-study schedule:

    • September to January: Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday at school, Thursday-Friday in the company
    • January to April: Monday-Tuesday at school, Wednesday-Thursday-Friday on the job
    • From April: full-time at the company
