This Post-Master's Program in Bio-Production of Innovative Therapeutics is unique in France, and is dedicated to the initial or continuing training of specialists in the industrial Bioproduction of innovative drugs. At postgraduate diploma level, it is aimed at engineers or graduates of any other accredited university course at M2 level, wishing to complement their initial skills with expertise in the industrial production of bio-drugs. The aim is to meet the specific bio-production needs of industry, in particular for monoclonal antibodies, cell therapies, vaccines and RNA drugs. The one-year English-language course is a hybrid (3 weeks classroom and e-learning) and can be taken as part of an initial training program, a work-study program (Contrats de Professionnalisation) or a continuing education program.
The result of collaboration between several components of Aix-Marseille University, it is run by the Polytech Marseille engineering school, in conjunction with the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Pharmacy.
The Master's degree is accredited by the CGE and the 4Digital label.
The duration of the B-PIT Post-Master's Program is one year (12 full months). Students wishing to take a few extra weeks to finalize their professional thesis may be authorized to defend their thesis beyond this period, up to a maximum of 2 months. Students who wish to defend their professional thesis in advance will not be allowed to do so. Courses are taught remotely. The University of Aix-Marseille has developed numerous secure tools and platforms to ensure optimum teaching quality.
Face-to-face teaching, practical work and some projects and exams take place at the Luminy Science and Technology Park on the Polytech premises.
Course organization
The course covers around 400 hours (+ in-company internship for students in Initial Training), including :
Two teaching units, one in basic science (Cell Biology, Immunology, Virology, Process Engineering) with e-learning upgrading possibilities, the other dedicated to innovative therapies (Therapeutic Antibodies, Vaccines, Cell Therapy, Therapeutic RNA) for a total of 200 hours. These 2 E.U.s for students (scheduled at the start of the curriculum - September-December) are designed to immerse them in the four fields that complement their initial skills.
A Specialized Practical Teaching Unit (January-April), for a total of 80 hours of practical work in a variety of formats (blocked weeks in Marseille) and projects to complement and adapt to professional objectives.
A teaching unit on bioproduction in an industrial environment, during the course.
Industrial and societal seminars, ethics, etc.
All courses are taught in English. To ensure that students are able to follow the course, applicants' level of English (standard certifications, TOEIC, etc.) will be examined at the time of selection, or even during a recruitment interview.
The two courses in Basic Sciences and Advanced Therapies will take the form of lectures accompanied by tutorials. Practical work will take place at Polytech Marseille, Luminy.
Theoretical courses will take place between October and December, practical courses between January and April, and the training course on bioproduction in an industrial environment will run throughout the year, following the pace at which students acquire their skills.
On completion of the Mastère Spécialisé® B-PIT, students will have benefited from a professional training program:
This will enable them to develop the personal and professional skills needed to become engineers and project managers: autonomy, adaptability, scalability, integration skills and teamwork. Activities related to the profession are :
Design, optimize and organize all technical solutions
Master and implement production/manufacturing methods for innovative therapies
Take into account productivity and quality requirements
Take into account the imperatives of sustainable development and the circular economy.
Target skills
Manage a project, particularly an innovative project, write a report, communicate;
Scientific approach and communication: know how to use the scientific approach to understand a question, select, justify, implement methodologies and procedures, disseminate and transfer knowledge.
All the academic teaching staff and a large proportion of the professional lecturers are professionals with links to bio-production, and as such are in touch with innovation and at the cutting edge of knowledge in their field of expertise. The other industrial lecturers, most of whom are consultants or auditors, have been chosen for the excellence of their know-how, which they maintain on a daily basis through their expert activities.
Numerous companies support the Mastère Spécialisé® B-PIT. All the companies and institutions to which this project was presented during its design process approved the proposed training theme and format, and some also contributed to the co-construction, corresponding to their needs.
This course is aimed at junior managers and then production managers for innovative drugs.
